Navigating Our Site

The menu that appears below the heading of each page provides access to almost all the features of this site. However, there are a few things that may not be obvious. There is a page for every person in our data base and there are three ways to pull up a record. If you know the first and/or last name of the person you seek, use the search window to the right of the menu bar to find them, then click on their name in the results list. You can also use the 'Surname List' menu button to view a list of all surnames. Click on the one you are interested in and then click on the name in the results list. Another way is to view the family tree you are interested in under 'Descendant Register', then click on the highlighted name in the Register that appears. The Register defaults to display five generations. If you want more use the drop down at the top of the listing.

Once you have selected an individual record, the 'Descendant Register' and 'Ancestor Register' buttons in the main menu will take you to a Register or Ahnentafel for that individual. Directly beneath the main menu you'll find a display of some of the significant historical events that occurred during the person's lifetime. Clicking on one will bring up the Wikipedia summary of that event. If we have a photo of your person of interest there will be a thumbnail preceding the record title. Mouseover that thumbnail to see the full size photo. You will also notice a Google Earth icon preceding most entries for birth, marriage and death. Those links will bring up a Google map of the place where that event took place. Finally, you can mouseover the sources found at the bottom of the record to bring up a tool tip showing the data provided by that source.
